The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is a collection of subscription databases paid for by the Alabama State Legislature. It is free to access by all Alabama residents. Because of the geo-location feature, you should be able to get onto the AVL without a username or password, as long as you are accessing the Internet from somewhere in Alabama. Go to

If you have trouble accessing any of the databases, visit your local public library and ask for a username and password.

You may also go through the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library's website to access the AVL and its individual databases. A link to AVL appears in a selection of online resources available to you as a HMCPL cardholder at "My Digital Library."

And individual databases are described and linked from the "RocketSearch" database guide.
