Answer

Although the Main Library of Huntsville-Madison County Public Library provides access to numerous print magazines, the easiest way to find magazine articles on a specific topic (person, place, or thing) is to use the Alabama Virtual Library.

The AVL is a collection of subscription databases provided to Alabama residents free of charge, courtesy of the Alabama legislature. You do not need a username or password to get into the databases if you are accessing them from within the state of Alabama. If you have difficulty getting in, visit your local public library for a username and password.

If you are 13 or older and need biographical articles, we suggest the following databases:

For all three, you may simply enter the name of the individual in the search box to get a list of magazine and newspaper articles related to that person. Once you find articles you like, you may read them online, print them, e-mail them to yourself, or save them to a computer or flash drive.

If you are 12 or younger, there are databases with articles written for young readers. Try these:

If you have trouble finding appropriate articles, contact the Reference Department at 256-532-5975 or askus@hmcpl.org for further assistance.
