Answer

Open EPUB and Open PDF eBooks are compatible with more devices and applications than protected EPUB and PDF eBooks. What this means is that you have more freedom when reading an 'open' eBook.

If you don't already have a favorite eBook app or program, we suggest checking out Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) for reading on a computer, or OverDrive Media Console (OMC) for reading on a mobile device.

What you need

A computer or device you can use to read eBooks. For example:

  • A computer with eBook reader software

  • An eBook reader such as a NOOK or Sony Reader

  • An Android, BlackBerry, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), or Windows Phone 7 device using an eBook reader app

  • A downloaded Open EPUB or Open PDF title.

Enjoy Open EPUBs and Open PDFs on your portable device

There are a lot of apps and devices that support EPUB and PDF files. You can use any of these to enjoy eBooks on the go. Simply transfer an EPUB or PDF to your device or download one directly using your mobile browser.

You can also enjoy EPUB eBooks on your portable device with OverDrive's mobile app which is available for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone 7.
