Are there any local avenues that will enable me to publicize my non-profit organization’s events?
OurValleyEvents.com is an event and travel website for the Tennessee Valley that enables community organizations to publicize their special events.
Nonprofits may post their events for free on the OVE calendar. To submit an event, click on “Event Listings” in the top tool bar. Although the form asks for an email address, it will not be posted publicly. The contact email is used by OVE staff to contact submitters. OVE asks that you submit unique events, not regular programming. For example, a class you offer every week is not appropriate content. But the quarterly or annual fundraiser is.
OVE was redesigned in March, 2012, and now includes a blog. Monday through Friday has daily posts detailing specific events. Saturday and Sunday discuss more generic things to do, like hiking, feeding ducks, etc. The free calendar boasts 200-3500 events monthly.
Nonprofits may pay to have an event highlighted, but listings are free. Also, events must be open to the public – they cannot be limited to members only. If your nonprofit does not have the budget to buy a highlighted event, contact OVE about a possible trade for services.
The Event Planning guide is also a free tool for nonprofits. There is an information guide about planning a successful event. There is a guide to local resources such as caterers, photographs, venues. And there is a planning calendar that nonprofits may use to avoid conflicts. Search past or future dates to avoid a traditional date for another event. And log your event to “save the date.”
Although you cannot pay to have OVE blog about your event, you may contact them requesting coverage. They may post about your event, or post pictures. These services are free of charge.
