Q. Where can I find information on obtaining a service or guide dog?

Answer

There are several organizations that provide training and placement of service dogs to appropriate individuals. One of the oldest and most respected is Guide Dogs of America," founded in 1947. They breed, train, match and place service and guide dogs with eligible clients. Clients can include those who are visually and physically impared in a variety of ways. This service is provided free of charge but involves lengthy interviews, evaluation and training of the individual candidates before any dogs are placed in a home. Guide Dogs of America is based in Sylmar, California, and can be reached at 818.362.5834. Their website is www.guidedogsofamerica.org
