Q. Why are holds not allowed on DVDs?

Answer

The library's policy concerning DVDs is as follows:

Audiovisual Materials (General Collection): DVDs - 10 for one week, 1 renewal, no holds.

Rental Collection: (AV Quick Picks):  Rental fee: $1.00 per DVD;  Loan period: DVDs - One (1) week, no renewals, no holds

Because of limited availability of the DVDs in the library's collection, no holds may be placed on DVDs.  They remain on a first-come, first-serve basis.  This ensures that every patron has a fair opportunity to check out DVD titles.  Also, the fragile nature of DVDs prevents them from being transferred between libraries.  So if the title that you are looking for is located at a particular branch, you must go to that branch location to check it out.  Each location is in charge of its unique collection.
