Q. What does suspend hold mean?
Suspend hold is a handy function that allows a patron to delay or postpone a hold. For example, if a patron is in a long queue for a bestseller, is due to receive the book soon but is going on vacation, the patron may enter a date on which the hold should resume so that he does not lose his place in line.
Suspended holds are helpful when a patron finds the title of a book she wants to read, but she is currently reading several other titles. To avoid forgetting to check out the book later, or risk it being checked out by another patron when ready, she can place a "suspend hold" with the date on which she'd like to have the book pulled for her.
