Q. Can you tell me what the Alabama Virtual Library is and what information it provides?

The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is a collection of information databases provided for Alabama citizens since 2000 by the Governor and the state legislature.  Anyone living within Alabama can access it for free at www.avl.lib.al.us.  You’ll be authenticated in a matter of seconds and will gain access to a world of resources and information including full-text magazine articles, journals, newspapers, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other resources.  The AVL is designed to assist Alabama students K-12 and junior college but it’s provides a wealth of information for all ages. Alabama patrons wanting to use the AVL when outside of the state may apply for an AVL card at any library location. The Library’s Computer Training Center frequently teaches courses in the use of the AVL.  Contact them at 256.532.2356 to find out about the next class.
