Q. How do I get on the Alabama Virtual Library?
Answer
The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is a collection of subscription databases paid for by the Alabama State Legislature. It is free to access by all Alabama residents. Because of the geo-location feature, you should be able to get onto the AVL without a username or password, as long as you are accessing the Internet from somewhere in Alabama. Go to http://www.avl.lib.al.us.
If you have trouble accessing any of the databases, visit your local public library and ask for a username and password.
You may also go through the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library's website to access the AVL and its individual databases. A link to AVL appears in a selection of online resources available to you as a HMCPL cardholder at "My Digital Library."
And individual databases are described and linked from the "RocketSearch" database guide.
