Q. How do I authorize my ereader with an Adobe ID?

When you use a new computer or eBook reader for eBooks from an OverDrive-powered site, you'll be prompted to 'Authorize' with an Adobe ID. This article will help you authorize compatible devices like the Sony Reader, NOOK, and more.

In order to transfer eBooks to an eBook reader, both the computer and device must be authorized with the same Adobe ID.

Note: These instructions are for ADE 2.0. Please make sure you're using the most up-to-date version before continuing.

What you need

Authorizing your eBook reader

  1. Connect your eBook reader to the computer.

  2. Open Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) on your computer. You should see your eBook reader under 'Devices'.
If your eBook reader is missing, make sure it's plugged in, then restart ADE.

  3. Select an eBook you'd like to transfer, then drag it over to your eBook reader.

That's all there is to it. ADE will automatically register your reader then transfer the selected eBook. Happy reading!
